All Things

Musings from the Garden

By Peggy Wyar

Romans 11:36 AMP For from Him [all things originate] and through Him [all things live and exist] and to Him are all things [directed]. To Him be glory and honor forever! Amen.”

After reading the above scripture I began thinking about what all things means to me. It encompasses my family, my finances, my physical body, my mental state, my circle of friends, my position in the Body of Christ, my home and all my belongings, the city I live in, the state I reside in, the country of origin, and the planet I exist on.  It speaks to my thoughts and understandings,  convictions and knowledge, world-view and perceptions. All things (according to Strong’s concordance) means ALL or the WHOLE.

I also considered that the whole of my existence was created by Jesus.  He is the author, the originator, of every thing that exists. As particular and precise that I know my God to be, every little or large thing of this earth has a divine purpose and is part of His excellent plan. He made everything for Himself.

John 1:2-4 AMP He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God.  All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being.  In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men.”

Colossians 1:16-17 AMP For by Him all things were created in heaven and on earth, [things] visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [that is, by His activity] and for Him.  And He Himself existed and is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. [His is the controlling, cohesive force of the universe.]”

Knowing that all exists because of His will, I take comfort in realizing that God chose to put me on this planet where He chose me to live.  He brought people into my life and removed others as He desired. He orchestrated every opportunity, every ministry, every occupation to suit His purpose for me. Jesus is supreme as head over all things.  He is the One holding all things together, and He continues to to be the Head of His Body which He holds together to be the expression of His love here on earth.

Ephesians 1:22-23 AMP “And He put all things [in every realm] in subjection under Christ’s feet, and appointed Him as [supreme and authoritative] head over all things in the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills and completes all things in all [believers].”

Mathew 11:27-28 AMP “All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Son except the Father; and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son [deliberately] wills to reveal Him. “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation].”

When I am feeling the pressure of carrying the weight of all the despair that sin has caused in this life, I can choose to let go of it.  I can rest in Christ, knowing He is capable of carrying every burden, keeping every marriage together, holding every child who’s been abused, sustaining every overwhelmed daughter and son, protecting every heart from being crushed, uplifting every person who’s feeling abandoned, and freeing all who are held captive to sin. I can pray and He will respond. I can be at rest because He carries all things and holds all things together.

Ephesians 1:9-10 AMP “He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, with regard to the fulfillment of the times [that is, the end of history, the climax of the ages]—to bring all things together in Christ, [both] things in the heavens and things on the earth.”

So now, when I consider all things, I am convinced that in Christ, they will be united under His Lordship for all eternity.  Only He can exert that much power and be wise enough to manage it all. His understanding is limitless. He is everywhere watching over everything. He alone is Sovereign and worthy of it all!

What’s my reasonable response?  “To Him be glory and honor forever! Amen.
